Myanmar Returns 47 Bangladeshi Fishermen After Detention

47 Bangladeshi fishermen who were apprehended while fishing in the Bay of Bengal close to Saint Martin have been returned to the Coast Guard by the Myanmar Navy. With assistance from the Coast Guard, the fishermen arrived at Teknaf Shahpari’s island jetty on Thursday, October 10, at approximately 7:30 p.m. The matter was validated by UNO of Teknaf Upazila. Chowdhury Adnan. The Myanmar Navy apprehended 58 fishermen on Wednesday, including six trawlers. Meanwhile, gunfire from the Myanmar Navy claimed the life of a Bangladeshi fisherman. Another two were shot. After this incident on Thursday, Myanmar Navy returned 11 people including the body of a jailer who was shot dead to the Bangladesh Coast Guard around noon. The remaining 47 were released in the evening on the same day. UNO Md. Adnan Chowdhury said that currently 58 Bangladeshi fishermen, including the deceased fisherman, are staying at Shahpari Island in Teknaf.
