At a National Youth Conference in Dhaka, National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari strongly criticized Bangladesh’s military intelligence agency DGFI, accusing it of lacking transparency and accountability. He warned that if DGFI continues its current practices without reforms, he would not hesitate to “break its headquarters.” Patwari also said that without completing the promised reforms, the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election in February should not take place.
Criticism Against DGFI
Nasiruddin Patwari directly targeted the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) during his speech, accusing the agency of operating without public accountability.
He said:
একটা গোয়েন্দা সংস্থা বাংলাদেশে—ডিজিএফআই আপনার-আমার পকেটের টাকায় চলাফেরা করে। তারা কত টাকা খরচ করে, বাংলাদেশের মানুষ জানতে পারে না। তাদের কোনো দায়িত্ববোধ নাই, জবাবদিহি নাই, স্বচ্ছতা নাই তাদের একটাই কাজ, মানুষকে ভীতি প্রদর্শন করে। কিছু হলেই আয়নাঘরে তুলে নিয়ে যায়। আপনাদের আয়নাঘর আমরা ভেঙে দিয়েছি। সামনে যদি একই ধরনের প্রচেষ্টা করা হয়, আমরা আয়নাঘর কেন, ডিজিএফআইয়ের হেডকোয়ার্টার ভেঙে দেব।
Translation: There is an intelligence agency in Bangladesh—DGFI—which runs on money from our pockets. People of Bangladesh do not know how much they spend. They have no sense of responsibility, no accountability, no transparency. Their only job is to intimidate people. Whenever something happens, they take people to the ‘mirror room’. We have already broken your mirror room. If the same attempt happens again, we will not only break the mirror room but the DGFI headquarters as well.

Demand for Reforms Before Elections
Nasiruddin Patwari warned that the 13th National Parliamentary Election in February 2026 should not be held unless reforms are completed.
নির্বাচনের তারিখ ঘোষণা হয়েছে ফেব্রুয়ারিতে। সংস্কারকাজ শেষ না করে যদি ফেব্রুয়ারিতে নির্বাচন হয়, তাহলে আমার যে ভাইয়েরা শহীদ হয়েছিল, রক্ত দিয়েছিল সংস্কারের জন্য, কবরে গিয়ে তাদের লাশগুলো ফেরত দিতে হবে এই সরকারকে।
Translaton: The election date has been announced for February. If the election is held without completing the reform work, then the government will have to return the bodies of my brothers who were martyred and shed blood for the reforms.
He also made an emotional remark about the sacrifices made:
আমার যে ভাইয়ের হাতটা চলে গিয়েছিল, যদি সংস্কারকাজ শেষ না করে নির্বাচন হয়, তাহলে এই সরকারকে আমার ভাইয়ের হাতটা ফিরিয়ে দিতে হবে। যে মায়ের বুক খালি হয়েছিল, ওই মায়ের বুকের সন্তানকে ফেরত দিতে হবে।
Translation: If the election is held without completing the reforms, the government must return the hand of my brother who lost it. And the mother whose heart was emptied must get her son back.
Questioning the Need for Sacrifices
Nasiruddin Patwari questioned why so many people were injured and killed in July if elections are to be held under the same old system.
একই সংস্কৃতির ডামাডোলে, একই ফ্যাসিবাদী সংবিধানে, একই সিস্টেমের মধ্য দিয়ে আমরা নির্বাচনে যাচ্ছি। তাহলে এতগুলো মানুষ শহীদ হওয়ার প্রয়োজন কী ছিল? এতগুলো মানুষ আহত হওয়ার প্রয়োজন কী ছিল?
Translation: We are going into the election under the same old culture, the same fascist constitution, and the same system. Then what was the need for so many people to be martyred? What was the need for so many people to be injured?
Criticism of the Media
Nasiruddin Patwari also criticized the role of the media, accusing them of misleading the public before and after the mass uprising.
গণমাধ্যম আগে ছিল ‘হাসিনামাধ্যম’, এখন কী মাধ্যম সেটা বললে চাকরি থাকবে না। গণ-অভ্যুত্থানের পরে সব মিডিয়ার সম্পাদকদের সঙ্গে বসেছিলাম। তাঁদেরকে বলেছিলাম, যা আকাম করেছেন, ঘরের ভেতরে বসে থাকেন। যদি লজ্জা থাকে, ঘরের ভেতর থেকে বের হবেন না। কিন্তু তাঁদের লজ্জা নাই। তাঁরা বারবার বাংলাদেশের মানুষদের ধোঁকা দিয়ে যাচ্ছে।
Translation: Earlier, the media was ‘Hasina-media’. Now, if I say what kind of media it is, I will lose my job. After the mass uprising, I met with all the editors of the media. I told them—stay inside your homes for what you have done. If you have any shame, do not come out. But they have no shame. They keep deceiving the people of Bangladesh again and again.
