National Award-Winning Hafiz Found Dead in Madrasa Toilet: Family Claims Murder

Hafiz Found Dead

The body of a 17-year-old madrasa student, Hafiz Mohammad Tawfiq Siam, was found hanging inside a toilet of a madrasa in Dhaka on Sunday morning. He was a student of Markazul Faizil Quran Al-Islamiya Madrasa, located in the capital’s Darussalam area.

Madrasa says suicide, family says murder

The madrasa authorities told the family that Tawfiq had died by suicide. However, his family strongly believes that he was murdered and then hanged to make it look like suicide. The body showed marks of cane injury in two places, according to police.

Who was Tawfiq Siam?

Tawfiq was from Gabura Union in Shyamnagar upazila, Satkhira district. He was the son of Md. Salauddin Sardar. Tawfiq was a brilliant student and had won several awards at national-level Quran memorization (Hifz) competitions in the Khulna division.

Family expresses shock and demands justice

Tawfiq’s father said,

“My son would never commit suicide. He was very religious, well-behaved, and good in his studies. This is clearly a murder. We want a fair investigation.”

Police confirm injury marks

ASI Azizul Islam from Darussalam Police Station confirmed that police recovered the body and found signs of cane beating on two spots. The body was sent for autopsy based on the family’s request. The final post-mortem report will reveal more details.

Locals demand proper investigation

The death has caused deep sadness in Tawfiq’s home area, Gabura and nearby regions in Satkhira. Locals and relatives are demanding a neutral investigation to find out the real reason behind the death.

“We want the truth. This must not be covered up,” said a local resident.

Madrasa authorities silent

So far, the madrasa authorities have not made any public statement regarding the incident, or the allegations made by the family.
