After nearly two decades, the iconic children’s and youth talent show ‘Natun Kuri’ is set to return to Bangladesh Television (BTV). Known for discovering and nurturing countless artists across generations, the program last aired in 2006. Its comeback news has sparked joy and nostalgia among fans, former contestants, and culture lovers across the country.
A Beloved Talent Hunt Show Makes a Comeback
BTV officially announced on Tuesday night (August 12) via its social media page that ‘Natun Kuri’ will soon return to television screens. This reality show first aired on BTV in 1976, produced by Mustafa Monwar, and ran successfully until 2006. Over the years, it became a cultural icon, offering a platform for young talents to showcase skills in singing, dancing, acting, recitation, and other performing arts.
A Platform for Generations of Artists
For decades, ‘Natun Kuri’ helped launch the careers of many celebrated Bangladeshi performers. It was not just a competition but, for many, the first step in their lifelong artistic journey.
Among the famous names who started on the ‘Natun Kuri’ stage are:
-

Roots Going Back Before Independence
Interestingly, the first version of ‘Natun Kuri’ aired in 1966 on Pakistan Television. After Bangladesh’s independence, the program was revived on BTV and soon became an inseparable part of the nation’s cultural heritage. It was especially well-known for finding and developing young talents from all corners of the country.
The Long Pause Since 2006
The program was halted in 2006 due to financial difficulties at BTV, the rise of private TV channels, and changes in the media landscape. Organizing countrywide auditions, live broadcasts, and maintaining the judging process became increasingly challenging.
In 2020, there were plans to relaunch the show, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced its cancellation.
Nostalgia and Anticipation Among Fans
Following BTV’s announcement of its return, social media filled with reactions from viewers, past participants, and cultural enthusiasts. Many shared memories and expressed excitement.
“নতুন কুঁড়ি অনেকের জন্য কেবল প্রতিযোগিতা নয়, বরং আজীবনের শিল্পযাত্রার প্রথম ধাপ ছিল।”
“For many, Natun Kuri was not just a competition, but the very first step in a lifelong artistic journey.”
Details Yet to Be Announced
So far, BTV has not revealed details about the audition process, broadcast schedule, or whether the show’s format will change. However, the announcement alone has already generated nationwide excitement, proving that ‘Natun Kuri’ still holds a special place in the hearts of Bangladeshis.
