Hasnat’s Statement on Interim Government

Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organizer (Southern Region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), said that although the interim government was formed with advice from all parties, NCP is being forced to take responsibility for all its failures.

He made this comment on Saturday (September 20) during a dialogue event at the IEDB building in Kakrail, Dhaka.

Blame Falling Only on NCP

Hasnat Abdullah explained that even though BNP and other parties are part of the interim government, the failures and limitations of the government are being blamed on NCP alone.

Translation: “Even though BNP and other parties are included, NCP has to take responsibility for all the failures and limitations of the interim government.”

Struggle Against Fascism

He accused other parties of not standing firmly against fascism, saying that NCP had to fight mostly alone.

Translation: “It was NCP that clearly stood against the fascists. We did not get full cooperation from anti-fascist political parties, and we had to fight almost alone.”

Call for Responsible Media

Hasnat also called on the media to be constructive and responsible.

Translation: “The media must be constructive, otherwise the country will fall under the cruel grip of invisible forces.”

Hasnat Abdullah clarified that although NCP is not against the media, it wants objective reporting. He also dismissed media claims about their meeting with former U.S. ambassador Peter Haas during a Cox’s Bazar visit on August 5.

Businessmen’s Influence in Politics

Hasnat strongly criticized how politics has become dependent on businessmen. He emphasized that politics must return to the hands of politicians and that Bangladesh’s political culture needs change.

Admission of Limitations

Finally, Hasnat admitted that NCP also has limitations but said they are willing to review, accept mistakes, and correct them with advice from others.

Translation: “We have limitations, and we review them. We can admit mistakes. If you give us advice, we will correct ourselves and practice pro-Bangladesh politics.”
