National Citizen Party (NCP) is preparing to expand across every upazila in Bangladesh by October. The party is also expecting registration soon with the symbol Shapla (water lily). At a meeting in Dhaka, Convener Nahid Islam said the party is not disappearing but moving forward with double strength.

NCP Plans to Reach Every Upazila

After organizing the July March, the National Citizen Party (NCP) is now planning to expand its activities to every upazila of Bangladesh. Party convener Nahid Islam announced that by October, NCP will form convening committees in every district and upazila.

He said that through a program called Uthan Baithak (yard meetings), the party will take its 24-point manifesto directly to the people at the grassroots level.

Party Registration and Symbol Hope

Nahid Islam confirmed that NCP is on its way to becoming a registered political party. He also said they are hopeful about receiving the election symbol Shapla.

“এনসিপির খুব শিগগিরই নিবন্ধিত দল হচ্ছে এবং প্রতীক হিসেবে শাপলাই পাচ্ছে।”

Translation: “NCP will soon become a registered political party, and we are getting the Shapla symbol.”

He further explained that the Election Commission has no valid reason to deny them this symbol.

NCP Is Moving Forward, Not Disappearing

At a briefing held on Friday, September 19, at the Shahid Abu Sayeed International Convention Center in Shahbagh, Dhaka, Nahid Islam declared that the party is stronger than ever.

“এনসিপি হারিয়ে যায়নি বরং দ্বিগুণ গতিতে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে।”

Translation: “NCP has not disappeared; instead, it is moving forward at double speed.”

Political Position and Alliances

Speaking about NCP’s political stance, Nahid Islam clarified that they are not part of the joint movement with Jamaat-e-Islami or other groups. Instead, NCP is pursuing an independent political agenda.

He also emphasized the importance of the July Charter, saying that a Constituent Assembly election is essential for its legal basis.

“জুলাই সনদের আইনি ভিত্তির জন্য গণপরিষদ নির্বাচনের বিকল্প নেই।”

Translation: “There is no alternative to a Constituent Assembly election for the legal basis of the July Charter.”

Nahid Islam added that NCP wants proportional representation (PR) in the upper house, not in the lower house.

Statements from Party Leaders

During the event, NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossain also addressed local leaders’ concerns. He said that their discussions included issues of alliances and the Constituent Assembly.

“আওয়ামী দোসররা এখনও ঘুরে বেড়াচ্ছে। তাই তাদের আইনের আওতায় আনার দাবি জানাচ্ছি।”

Translation: “Awami collaborators are still moving around freely. So, we demand that they be brought under the law.”
