Iran has appointed Brigadier General Majid Khadami as the new head of the intelligence division of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). This was announced by Iran’s official IRNA news agency on Thursday.
He replaces Mohammed Kazemi, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike last Sunday along with two other IRGC officers—Hassan Mohaghegh and Mohsen Bagheri.
Command Changes After Israeli Strikes
The head of the IRGC, Major General Mohammad Pakpour, made the appointment. He himself had just been appointed recently, after his predecessor Hossein Salami was killed in an Israeli airstrike on June 13.
Pakpour praised the former intelligence leaders, saying:
“Under the leadership of Martyrs Kazemi and Mohaqeq, we saw great progress in our intelligence operations.”

Ongoing Conflict Between Iran and Israel
Israel launched a series of airstrikes last week targeting Iran’s nuclear and military sites. Israel claimed Iran was close to building a nuclear weapon, which Iran strongly denies.
These airstrikes killed several high-ranking Iranian officials, triggering retaliation from Iran.
On Thursday, Iran responded by launching a strike that hit an Israeli hospital.
Strong Words from Iran’s New Military Leader
When Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei appointed Pakpour as commander last Friday, Pakpour issued a strong warning. He said Iran would “open the gates of hell” in response to Israel’s actions.
Meanwhile, top Israeli leaders have openly spoken about plans to target Khamenei himself.
