Mawlana Mufti Abdul Malek, the Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, said that calling the celebration of the Prophet Muhammad’s (saw) birth “Eid” is not right in Islam.
Eid in Islam
He explained that Islam recognizes only two Eids — Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha. There is no third Eid mentioned in the history of Islam. He said,
Translation: “Eid means Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha. There is no Eid named Eid-e-Miladunnabi.”
History and Tradition
He also said,
Translation: “There is a clear history about Eid in Islam — from the time of the Sahaba, Tabi’in, and Tabi Tabi’in.”

Discussion on the Prophet’s Life
Mufti Abdul Malek added that discussing the Prophet Muhammad (saw) ‘s life (Seerah) and birth is important but turning that into an Eid is not allowed.
Translation: “The Seerah and birth of the Prophet (SWT) should be discussed… but making his birthday an Eid is not something Shariah allows.”
He also mentioned that many people may not like his words and may criticize him on social media, but the history and Shariah are clear.
