Appeal at Prayer Gathering
Omar bin Hadi, the younger brother of revolutionary activist Osman Hadi, has called on people to focus on completing his brother’s unfinished revolutionary movement, instead of offering financial assistance.
He made this appeal on Sunday morning (21 December) at a doa mahfil organized by Jamaat-e-Islami in the Moghbazar area of Dhaka.
“We Do Not Want Donations”
Speaking emotionally, Omar bin Hadi said they are not seeking any monetary help. He said,
“আমরা কোনও ধরনের আর্থিক সহায়তা বা অনুদান চাই না।”
Translation: “We do not want any kind of financial assistance or donations.”
He emphasized that their only demand is to complete the revolution for which Osman Hadi gave his life.
Memories of Osman Hadi’s Words
Omar bin Hadi recalled how Osman often spoke about martyrdom and sacrifice. Said,
“ওসমান বলতো আমি যদি কখনো রবের ডাকে সাড়া দিয়ে চলে যাই তাহলে আপনি শহিদের ভাই হবেন… এর চেয়ে আর গর্বের কিছু নাই।”
Translation: “Osman used to say that if I ever respond to the call of my Lord and leave, you will be known as a martyr’s brother… there is no greater honor than that.”
Omar Bin Hadi added that he never wanted the identity of a martyr’s brother but instead wanted to stand beside Osman on the streets, fighting to free Bangladesh from domination and build a nation based on justice.
Grief After His Death
Omar bin Hadi said Osman was shot after Friday Jummah prayers and passed away a week later in Singapore, where he was undergoing treatment.
Omar Bin Hadi stated that the family, Inqilab Mancha, and fellow activists are still deeply shocked and emotionally broken.
Prayer Requests for Family
At the end of his speech, Omar bin Hadi requested prayers for:
- Osman Hadi’s eight-month-old child
- His wife and other family members
- His sister, who made sacrifices to raise two brothers after their father’s death and is now mentally distressed
He asked everyone to pray for her recovery and strength.

Jamaat Leader Raises Questions
Speaking at the event, Mia Golam Parwar, Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami, said the government must clearly explain what steps are being taken to arrest those involved in the killing. He expressed,
“সরকার যদি হত্যাকাণ্ডে জড়িতদের ধরতে কী পদক্ষেপ নেয়া হচ্ছে, তা জনগণের সামনে স্পষ্ট না করে, তাহলে মানুষের কাছে সরকারের ভূমিকা নিয়ে প্রশ্ন তৈরি হবে।”
Translation: “If the government does not clearly explain what steps are being taken to arrest those involved in the murder, questions will arise among the public about the government’s role.”
Demand for Immediate Action
He further stated that all those involved must face action, even if they belong to intelligence agencies. He said,
“হত্যাকাণ্ডে যারাই জড়িত থাকুক এমনকি তারা যদি গোয়েন্দা সংস্থার সদস্যও হয়, তাদের বিরুদ্ধে দ্রুত ব্যবস্থা নিতে হবে।”
Translation: “Whoever is involved in the killing, even if they are members of intelligence agencies, must face swift action.”
Concerns Ahead of National Election
Referring to the upcoming national election, he said the killing of a parliamentary candidate just one day after the election schedule announcement cannot be seen as an isolated incident.
He added that the Election Commission also carries political and administrative responsibility for the situation.
