Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) for the southern region, made a strong political statement during a rally in Cumilla on Wednesday (23 July). Speaking to supporters at Town Hall field, he said he has no issue if someone supports BNP or Jamaat-e-Islami, but he will not tolerate any alliance with the ruling Awami League.
No Tolerance for Awami League Ties
Hasnat strongly opposed any connection with the Awami League, accusing the party of causing harm to the people.
“আপনি বিএনপি করেন সমস্যা নেই, জামায়াত ইসলামী করেন সমস্যা নেই। কিন্তু আওয়ামী লীগের সাথে সখ্যতা মেনে নেয়া হবে না।”
(“There is no problem if you support BNP or Jamaat-e-Islami. But we will not accept any friendship with the Awami League.”)

Accusations Around Plane Crash and Political Exploitation
Referring to the recent plane crash at Milestone College, Hasnat accused the Awami League of taking political advantage of the incident.
“মাইলস্টোনের বিমান দুর্ঘটনায় আওয়ামী লীগ আলু পোড়া খেতে এসেছিল।”
(“During the Milestone plane crash, Awami League came just to enjoy the scene like watching roasted potatoes.”)
He added that if the Awami League returns to power, it would again oppress the people.
“কোনওভাবে আওয়ামী লীগ ফিরে আসলে মানুষকে বাঁচতে দেবে না।”
(“If Awami League comes back in any way, it won’t let people live freely.”)
Call for Unity Among Opposition Forces
He urged all anti-fascist political groups to unite for the sake of the country.
“দেশের স্বার্থে ফ্যাসিবাদবিরোধী রাজনৈতিক দলগুলোকে ঐক্যবদ্ধ থাকতে হবে।”
(“For the sake of the country, all anti-fascist political parties must stay united.”)
Claims of Regional Neglect and Political Bias
Hasnat claimed that Cumilla has long suffered from state-level discrimination. He criticized Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for disrespecting Cumilla’s name in the past.
“রাষ্ট্রীয় বৈষম্যের শিকার হয়েছিল কুমিল্লা। রাষ্ট্রীয় কোনও উন্নয়নের ছোঁয়া জেলাটিতে লাগেনি।”
(“Cumilla has been a victim of state discrimination. No trace of development has reached the district.”)
“শেখ হাসিনা দম্ভভরে বলেছিল কুমিল্লা নামের আগে যেহেতু কু আছে তাই কুমিল্লা নামে বিভাগ হবে না। কিন্তু কুমিল্লা নামেই বিভাগ হবে।”
(“Sheikh Hasina arrogantly said there won’t be a division named Cumilla because the name starts with ‘Ku’. But the division will still be named Cumilla.”)
He also alleged that investments in the district were made only to benefit a particular political party.
“জেলাটিতে একটি নির্দিষ্ট দলের পকেট ভারী করতে বিনিয়োগ হয়েছে।”
(“Investments in this district were only made to fill the pockets of one specific political party.”)
