No More Entry for Pharma Reps. in Hospitals

The Ministry of Health has issued 10 directives to ensure proper treatment for all individuals receiving treatment in government and private hospitals, including those injured during the anti-discrimination student movement. These directives aim to improve hospital services and healthcare activities. One of the key directives includes imposing restrictions on the entry of pharmaceutical company representatives into hospitals.the directive, signed by the Deputy Secretary of the Health Services Division, Umm-e-Habiba, was sent to all hospitals across the country on November 18. It mentions that strict legal action will be taken if the directives are not followed.

All public and private hospitals are required to provide appropriate care for anybody hurt during the anti-discrimination student campaign, according to the instruction. Service priority must be given to those who have been harmed, and all medical care must be free for those who have been hurt.Furthermore, if private hospitals are unable to provide treatment, the government will cover the cost of the injured person’s medications, provided appropriate bills and vouchers are submitted to the Health Directorate for verification and payment. If an injured person requires advanced treatment abroad (if treatment is not possible in the country and recovery or improvement is expected with treatment abroad), the relevant medical board’s advice must be sought, and the application should be sent urgently to the Health Services Department with proper records. Avisitor card system should be implemented for all authorized hospital visitors, according to the regulation. No visitor will be permitted to enter or remain in a patient’s room without a card. This must be guaranteed by the hospital administration.Additionally, representatives from pharmaceutical companies or dealers from various companies will not be allowed to enter the hospital under any circumstances. Every doctor and healthcare personnel must follow the schedule for patient visits and examinations appropriately.Hospitals are also instructed to establish reception desks to provide organized healthcare services. The reception should direct patients to the appropriate doctor based on the nature of their illness. The instruction states that service seekers’ ticket purchase procedure needs to be structured. For this reason, all hospitals must put in place a computerized system. Hospital administrators must make sure that no one who is not registered or certified by the relevant body is involved in giving care in any hospital.
