Sarjis Alam’s Strong Warning
Sarjis Alam, chief organizer of the National Citizens Party (NCP) in northern Bangladesh, spoke at a district coordination meeting in Naogaon on Tuesday, warning some advisors about their responsibilities:
“কিছু উপদেষ্টার মধ্যে দেখা যাচ্ছে- তারা কোনোভাবে দায়সারা দায়িত্বটা পালন করেন নির্বাচনের মধ্য দিয়ে এক্সিট নিতে পারলেই হলো। কিন্তু এত এত শহীদের রক্তের ওপর দাঁড়িয়ে দায়িত্ব পালনে যদি উপদেষ্টারা ভয় করেন তাহলে তাদের এই দায়িত্ব পালনের প্রয়োজন নেই। যারা এ ধরনের চিন্তা করেন, তাদের জন্য মৃত্যু ছাড়া কোনো সেফ এক্সিট নেই। পৃথিবীর যে প্রান্তে যাক বাংলাদেশের মানুষ তাদের ধরবে।”
Translation: “Some advisors seem to take responsibility lightly, thinking they can exit through elections. But if they fear fulfilling duties standing on the blood of martyrs, then they don’t need this responsibility. For those who think like this, there is no safe exit except death. No matter where they go in the world, the people of Bangladesh will hold them accountable.”
Criticism of Election Commission
Sarjis Alam also spoke about the Shapla symbol and the Election Commission’s behavior:
“শাপলা প্রতীকে আইনগত কোনো বাধা নেই, তারপরও নির্বাচন কমিশন স্বাধীন সাংবিধানিক প্রতিষ্ঠান অভ্যুত্থান পরবর্তী স্বেচ্ছাচারিতামূলক আচরণ করছে, না হলে কারও চাপে পড়ে এমন করছে। এটা কখনও মেনে নেওয়া হবে না। নির্বাচন কমিশন স্বাধীন সাংবিধানিক প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে আস্থা ধরে রেখে কাজ করবে।”
Translation: “There is no legal barrier to the Shapla symbol, yet the Election Commission, a constitutional independent institution, is acting arbitrarily post-uprising. This will never be accepted. The Election Commission must maintain trust while performing its duties independently.”
Short-term Profit নয়, Long-term Growth-ই আসল।
Preparations for Upcoming Elections
Responding to a question about alliances in the upcoming national elections, he said:
“আসন্ন জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচনে এনসিপি জোটবদ্ধভাবে কারও সঙ্গে নির্বাচন করবেন কিনা, সে বিষয়ে দলের প্রধানরা বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক দলের সঙ্গে আলাপ আলোচনা চালিয়ে যাচ্ছেন। এর আগে সাংগঠনিক ভিত শক্তিশালী করতে আগামী নভেম্বর মাসের মধ্যেই সব জেলা, উপজেলাসহ বিভিন্ন ইউনিটি কমিটি দেবে এনসিপি।”
Translation: “Regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections, NCP leaders are discussing alliances with various political parties. Before that, the party will strengthen organizational foundations by forming unit committees in all districts and upazilas by November.”

Unity and Political Stance
Sarjis Alam stressed:
“বাংলাদেশের ভালো মানুষরা সবাই একত্রিত হয়ে একটি রাজনৈতিক দল করতে চাইলে পারে। কিন্তু আওয়ামী লীগের যেকোনো ভার্সন বাংলাদেশে অভ্যুত্থান পরবর্তীতে কোনোভাবেই প্রাসঙ্গিক না। এনসিপি তা কখনোই মেনে নেবে না।”
Translation: “Good people of Bangladesh can unite to form a political party. But any version of the Awami League in Bangladesh post-uprising is irrelevant. NCP will never accept it.”
The meeting was chaired by Monira Sharmin, joint convener of NCP and chief coordinator of Naogaon district, with other party leaders including Rajshahi divisional organizer Imran Emon and district-level leaders present.
