Nobin Fashion announced on its Facebook page on Wednesday (25 March) that it will resume operations. The announcement came after a branch in Moghbazar, Dhaka was forcibly closed the day before Eid.
Political Support Helps Reopen Branches
Nobin Fashion stated:
“জনাব হাসনাত আবদুল্লাহ এমপি এবং বাংলাদেশ দোকান মালিক সমিতির সভাপতি জনাব হেলাল সাহেবের উদ্যোগে অন্যান্য শাখাগুলো সচল রাখা সম্ভব হয়েছে।”
Translation: “Thanks to the initiative of Mr. Hasnat Abdullah MP and Mr. Helal, President of the Bangladesh Shop Owners’ Association, it was possible to keep the other branches operational.”
Nobin Fashion also announced that Managing Director Enamul Hasan Nobin, currently in China, will connect with customers via Facebook Live to exchange Eid greetings.
Owner Left Country Due to Threats
Earlier, Enamul Hasan Nobin, owner of Nobin Punjabi, left the country amid widespread attention. On his Facebook post with a photo of Shahjalal International Airport, he wrote:
“সিংহের মতো বাঁচতে চাই। কিন্তু সিন্ডিকেটের গুলিতে সন্তানদের এতিম করতে চাই না। তাই দেশ ছেড়ে চলে যাচ্ছি। পরিস্থিতি স্বাভাবিক হলে হয়তো একদিন দেশে ফিরব ইনশাআল্লাহ।”
Translation: “I want to live like a lion. But I don’t want the syndicate’s bullets to make my children orphans. So I am leaving the country. If the situation becomes normal, I may return one day, God willing.”

Price Control and Syndicate Issues
In a press conference in Moghbazar, Nobin said:
“আমাদের লক্ষ্য গ্রাহকের কাছে ন্যায্যমূল্যে পণ্য বিক্রি করা। এর কারণে যদি আমাদের বাধার সম্মুখীন হতে হয় তাহলে আমরা ব্যবসা বন্ধ করে দেব। আমি আবার প্রবাসে ফিরে যাব। আমার মনে হয় বাংলাদেশে ব্যবসা করা হবে না। তবে, ৪ হাজার ৫০০ টাকার নিচে পাঞ্জাবি এবং ১ হাজার ৫০০ টাকার নিচে পাজামা বিক্রি করা যাবে না বলে তাদেরকে মূল্য নির্ধারণ করে দেওয়া হয় বলে দাবি করেন তিনি।”
Translation: “Our goal is to sell products to customers at fair prices. If we face obstacles for this, we will close the business. I will return abroad. I feel business in Bangladesh may not be possible. They set the price that Punjabi cannot be sold below 4,500 taka and Pajama below 1,500 taka.”
He accused the syndicate of always controlling the market and threatening him via phone:
“আমাদের ফোন দিয়ে ভয় দেখানো হচ্ছে যে, সব শোরুম বন্ধ করে দেব, যদি ভিডিও ডিলিট না করো। আমরা তো ভিডিও করিনি, আমাদের এক গ্রাহক ভিডিও করে ফেসবুকে দিয়েছে, সেখান থেকে সংবাদকর্মীরা ভিডিওগুলো নিয়েছে।” Translation: “We are being threatened over the phone that all showrooms will be closed if we don’t delete the video. We didn’t make the video; a customer posted it on Facebook, from where journalists took it.”
Commitment to Social Welfare
Nobin Fashion also emphasized its charitable work:
“এই প্রতিষ্ঠানের আয়-ব্যয় সম্পূর্ণ গরিব, দুঃখী, অসহায়দের মাঝে আমরা বিতরণ করে থাকি। ব্যবসার লাভ্যাংশ দিয়ে আমরা গরিব, দুঃখী, অসহায়দের খাবার বিতরণ করে থাকি। তাদের চিকিৎসার ব্যবস্থা করে থাকি। তারপর থেকে আমরা সবসময় মিডিয়ার আড়ালেই থেকেছি। কখনোই সামনে আসিনি।”
Translation: “The income and expenditure of this company are fully distributed among the poor, distressed, and helpless. We use business profits to provide food and medical care to the needy. Since then, we have always stayed out of the media and never came forward.”
