Nurul Haque Nur injured in clash in front of the JPA office

Nurul Haque Nur, president of the Gana Odhikar Parishad, were injured in a clash with the police in front of the Jatiya Party (JPA) office at around 8:15 pm on Friday (August 29). Nur was taken to the hospital in a bloody state.

The leaders and activists of the Gana Odhikar Parishad said that while they were holding a procession in front of the JPA office for the second time, the Jatiya Party leaders and activists hurled bricks and stones at them, resulting in a clash between the two sides.

Imran of the Gana Odhikar Parishad said,

আমরা মিছিল নিয়ে যাওয়ার সময় জাতীয় পার্টির নেতাকর্মীরা আমাদের ওপর ইট পাটকেল ছুড়ে। এ সময় উভয় পক্ষের মধ্যে সংঘর্ষের ঘটনা ঘটে। পরে আহত অবস্থায় আমাদের গণধিকার পরিষদের চারজন নেতাকর্মীকে হাসপাতালে নিয়ে আসা হয়। বর্তমানে তারা ঢাকা মেডিকেলে চিকিৎসা নিচ্ছেন। Translation: “While we were taking out the procession, Jatiya Party leaders and activists attacked us. The injured leaders and activists have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College and are undergoing treatment.”

Inspector Md. Farooq also said that four Gana Odhikar Parishad workers and a police inspector were admitted to the hospital with injuries.

Situation and chase and counter-chase

Eyewitnesses said that Gana Odhikar Parishad workers rushed towards the Jatiya Party office after being chased by the police and army. The army and police charged them with batons, as a result of which Nur was injured. Nur’s head was fractured and he was taken to Kakrail Islami Bank Central Hospital.

Background of the incident

On Friday evening, around 5:45 pm, a party procession led by Gana Odhikar Parishad leader Nurul Haque Nur and general secretary Rashed Khan was heading towards Kakrail via Bijoynagar. At this time, tension arose when Jatiya Party leaders and workers stood in front of the office. Later, a chase and counter-chase and brickbat pelting took place. Ramna Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Faruk said that army patrol teams and police members have reached the spot and are trying to bring the situation under control.

Current situation

The situation in the area is tense after the incident. The army and police have been deployed to control the situation. The injured leaders and activists are receiving treatment and the situation is being monitored.
