Old Tree Collapses in Dhanmondi, Woman Injured, 4 Vehicles Damaged

Old Tree Collapses in Dhanmondi

A 40-year-old mahogany tree suddenly collapsed on Dhanmondi 6/A Road in the capital, injuring a woman and damaging four vehicles.

The incident occurred around 3:30 PM on Thursday (July 31), during heavy traffic on the road. The large tree suddenly tilted and fell, crushing a private car, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, a battery-operated rickshaw, and a motorcycle. A 26-year-old woman named Sumaiya, who was inside the CNG auto-rickshaw, was injured and promptly taken to the hospital after being rescued.

Fosir Uddin, Senior Station Manager of the Mohammadpur Fire Station, stated that although the tree was around 40 years old, its roots couldn’t grow deep due to surrounding concrete walls. As a result, recent rainfall softened the upper soil, leading the tree to lose its balance and collapse.

As of the latest update, the Fire Service and City Corporation are working to remove the tree and clear the road.
