OpenAI has launched GPT-5, the newest version of its artificial intelligence model, aiming to improve speed, accuracy, and the ability to solve complex problems. The company’s CEO, Sam Altman, described this upgrade as a big leap in making AI feel more expert and human-like. With this new release, OpenAI hopes to maintain its lead in the global AI competition, even as companies like Google, Meta, and Chinese firms develop similar tools.
GPT-5 is Faster and Smarter Than Before
On August 7, 2025, OpenAI announced its new model, GPT-5. It is now available for people who use ChatGPT, the company’s popular AI chatbot. According to OpenAI, GPT-5 is a “major upgrade” that is better at giving correct answers and much less likely to make things up — a common problem in earlier AI models.
“It feels significantly better in obvious ways and in subtle ways,” said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
“GPT-5 is the first time that it feels like talking to an expert in any topic — a Ph.D.-level expert.”

What Makes GPT-5 Different?
GPT-5 uses something called a “reasoning model.” Unlike older versions, this new model can pause and think before answering complex questions. This feature helps the AI give better and more thoughtful responses.
“For most people on ChatGPT, this is their first introduction to reasoning,” said Nick Turley, OpenAI’s VP in charge of ChatGPT.
“It just knows when to ‘think.’”

A Step Toward Human-Level Intelligence
Mr. Altman believes GPT-5 is a big step toward the future goal of creating Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) — a system that can do anything the human brain can do.
“This is a significant step,” he said.

OpenAI’s Business Plan and Revenue Goals
Even though ChatGPT is popular, OpenAI is not yet making a profit. The company currently offers a free version and a more powerful paid version for $20 a month. It also sells AI tools to businesses.
This year, OpenAI plans to raise $40 billion and hopes to earn $20 billion in revenue by the end of 2025.
