The condition of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a potential independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, remains critical after he was shot during an election campaign. The update was confirmed by Dr. Arif Mahmud, Director of Medical Services at Evercare Hospital Bangladesh.

Speaking to journalists in front of Evercare Hospital on Saturday (13 December), Dr. Arif Mahmud said,

“It is not possible to comment on Hadi’s medical progress until at least 72 hours have passed. His brain injury is extremely severe. Although his heart is functioning, the condition of his brain is very poor. At this moment, nothing definitive can be said, and the waiting period may need to be extended if necessary.”

He further explained that due to injury to the brain stem, Hadi’s eyes remain fixed. However, he noted a positive sign, stating that other organs of Hadi’s body are still functioning.

The shooting incident took place on Friday afternoon in the Box Culvert area of Nayapaltan while Hadi was campaigning. He was critically injured by a gunshot to the head and was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). After undergoing surgery there, he was placed in the ICU. Later, at the request of his family, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital for advanced treatment.
