Clash Erupts Over a Trivial Incident
A violent clash broke out between students at Daffodil International University and City University in Savar’s Khagan area on Sunday (October 26) night. The incident occurred around 9 PM at a student residence called “Bachelor Paradise.”
According to eyewitnesses, the conflict between Daffodil and City University began when a City University student accidentally spat from his motorcycle, and it landed on a Daffodil student standing nearby. The minor issue sparked an argument between the students of both universities.
Violent Attack on Daffodil Students’ Hostel
Later that night, around 40 to 50 City University students reportedly attacked the Daffodil students’ residence using local weapons, bricks, and sticks. They vandalized parts of the building during the assault.

When the video of the attack spread on social media, over 1,000 Daffodil students gathered near the site, demanding justice. The situation grew tense as they tried to move toward City University, but police and university proctors intervened.
Police and University Authorities Step In
The Savar Police deployed two teams to the spot to bring the situation under control. Daffodil’s proctorial team and administration members also arrived to calm the students. The Daffodil proctor later contacted City University’s proctor, sharing evidence of the attack and requesting a proper investigation.

Even after the authorities’ intervention, tension persisted. Around 4:30 AM, City University’s football coach Kamruzzaman Kajol said,
“প্রশাসনের হস্তক্ষেপ সত্ত্বেও দুই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থীদের মধ্যে ধাওয়া-পাল্টা ধাওয়া চলছে।”
Translation: “Despite the administration’s intervention, chase and counter-chase are still happening between the students of the two universities.”
He also mentioned that a vehicle was set on fire during the clashes.

Fire at City University Campus
Around 3:30 AM, a nearby Jahangirnagar University student captured video footage showing flames rising from the City University campus.
Rakibul Hasan, a duty officer at the Fire Service control room, confirmed the incident:
“After receiving information about a vehicle being set on fire in front of City University, fire service personnel rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.”

Fear of Further Violence
Several former students of both Daffodil and City University expressed concern that the situation might escalate further if not handled carefully. They warned that the ongoing tension could lead to a major violent confrontation.
