Injured but Determined
Rime Abu Uddah, a young Palestinian girl from Khan Yunus in Gaza, set an extraordinary example of courage and faith amid ongoing conflict and destruction. She was seriously injured in Israeli airstrikes but completed memorizing the entire Quran while bedridden in the hospital.
Completing Quran Memorization in Hospital
According to Al Jazeera on Saturday, Rime’s unwavering dedication allowed her to succeed in memorizing the Quran despite severe physical pain.
Rime told Al Jazeera:
“The path to memorizing the Holy Quran was both beautiful and difficult. I completed Quran memorization for the forgiveness of my martyred mother, even though I was very tired due to serious injuries.”

Timing and Injuries
Rime explained that she had intended to finish the Quran on her mother’s death anniversary, August 24 last year. However, two days earlier, on August 22, she was seriously injured in an airstrike, sustaining multiple shrapnel wounds and stomach injuries.
She said:
“I had taken shelter in an area declared safe by the occupiers. But an attack hit the tent next to us. By Allah’s grace, during about a month of treatment, I completed Quran memorization in the hospital. Alhamdulillah, I have memorized the Quran.”
Family Support and Inspiration
Rime’s sister, Safa Abu Uddah, said that Rime completed her memorization while lying in bed, reciting the Quran daily. The doctors were amazed by her incredible patience and mental strength. Rime considers her sister Safa as her biggest inspiration and support in life.
Rime added:
“Throughout this horrific war, the Quran has been my main source of patience and stability.”

Recognition for Courage
For her extraordinary perseverance, Rime Abu Uddah was honored by the Habib Muhammad Center in Gaza City. Her achievement represents faith, resilience, and a love for learning amidst Gaza’s ruins, serving as an inspiration for the Palestinian people.
