New Name for New Year Procession
The procession held during the Bengali New Year (Pohela Boishakh) celebration will now be officially known as “Boishakhi Shobhajatra,” according to Cultural Affairs Adviser Nitai Roy Chowdhury. He made this announcement on Saturday (April 4) while speaking at a foundation stone laying ceremony for a modern district rest house in Mohammadpur, Magura.
No Difference Between Existing Processions
During his speech, the adviser addressed the confusion around different names used for the New Year procession.
He said:
Translation: “There is no difference between Mangal Shobhajatra and Ananda Shobhajatra. However, in the future, the New Year celebration procession will be held under the name Boishakhi Shobhajatra.”
