Reward Announcement from Police

The police have announced a cash reward of 5,000 taka for anyone who can catch participants from marches organized by the banned League or its associate organizations. The declaration was officially circulated through a wireless message on Wednesday afternoon.

An audio clip of this announcement has been obtained by CtgPost. In the recording, a voice can be heard saying:

“কার্যক্রম নিষিদ্ধঘোষিত দল বা সংগঠনের মিছিল থেকে একজনকে ধরতে পারলে ৫ হাজার টাকা, দুজনকে ধরতে পারলে ১০ হাজার টাকা। এভাবে যিনি যতজন ধরতে পারবেন তত গুণ টাকা পুরস্কার প্রদান করবেন পুলিশ কমিশনার।”

Translation:
“If someone catches one participant from a march of the banned party or its organizations, they will receive 5,000 taka. Catching two will earn 10,000 taka. In this way, the more people someone can catch, the more money they will receive as a reward from the Police Commissioner.”

Ban on Awami League’s Activities

The interim government had earlier announced a complete ban on all political activities of the League and its wings. This ban will remain in place until the International Crimes Tribunal completes trials against Awami League leaders.

This decision was taken in the Advisory Council’s emergency meeting on May 10, 2025, after months of pressure from other political parties, organizations, and student groups demanding a ban on Awami League.

Recent Resurgence of Awami League Activities

Although Awami League remained mostly silent for a long time, reports suggest that its street presence has increased in recent weeks. In Dhaka, sudden flash processions (ঝটিকা মিছিল) have been seen, often organized with the participation of Chhatra League and other affiliated groups, despite the official ban.

Observers note that the main goal behind these sudden marches is to share videos on social media and prove the party’s continued existence and visibility.

Law Enforcement Action

Law enforcement officials have confirmed that they have already arrested several Awami League activists from such sudden marches. Authorities have also assured that they will continue monitoring and taking action to prevent further banned political activities.
