India’s Adani Power has reduced its electricity supply to Bangladesh by over 60% due to an ongoing payment dispute. This disruption has put significant pressure on Bangladesh’s power sector, particularly during periods of high demand.
Sources indicate that the dispute centers around delayed payments and logistical issues related to coal supply. Adani Power has stated that, due to Bangladesh’s non-payment within the agreed timeframe, it was forced to reduce the power supply by over 60%.
Bangladesh, which relies heavily on imported electricity from India to meet its energy needs, is now seeking alternative sources to address the shortfall. The government is negotiating with Adani Power to resolve the issue and restore full supply.
Additionally, the government is focused on increasing domestic power generation and diversifying energy sources to prevent such disruptions in the future. While the situation is expected to improve soon, resolving this dispute is crucial for Bangladesh’s energy security.
