RAB Detains Three Suspects
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained three suspected individuals in connection with the attempted murder of Sharif Osman Hadi, a possible independent candidate in the 13th national parliamentary election and convener of Inqilab Manch.
The arrests were made on Sunday (14 December) from different parts of Dhaka, according to RAB.
Who Were Detained?
The detainees are:
- Samia, wife of main suspect Faisal Karim Masud
- Maria, identified as Faisal’s girlfriend
- Shipu, Faisal’s brother-in-law
The information was confirmed by Commander M Z M Entekhab Chowdhury, Director of the Media Wing of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

What RAB Recovered
RAB said a large number of cheque books signed by Faisal and several electronic devices were seized during the operation. The detainees have since been handed over to the police for further investigation.
Police Identify Shooter and Rider
Meanwhile, police have identified the gunman and his accomplice involved in the attack.
At an afternoon press briefing, Nazrul Islam, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said the identified individuals are Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh.
He stated:
“মোটরসাইকেলের পেছনে বসা ফয়সাল গুলি চালিয়েছে এবং আলমগীর মোটরসাইকেলের চালকের আসনে ছিলেন।”
Translation: “Faisal, who was seated at the back of the motorcycle, fired the shots, while Alamgir was driving the motorcycle.”
Motorcycle Recovered, More Arrests Made
Earlier in the day, Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali, Commissioner of DMP, said two more suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack and that the motorcycle used in the shooting had been recovered.
Before that, police arrested Abdul Hannan, the owner of the motorcycle used in the attack. During preliminary questioning, Hannan admitted ownership of the vehicle.
Attack Background and Current Situation
The shooting occurred on Friday afternoon at the Box Culvert area of Bijoynagar in Dhaka. Hadi was shot while campaigning and was immediately taken to Evercare Hospital, where Osman Hadi is currently receiving treatment in the CCU.
Following the incident, protest programs have continued across the country, demanding justice and improved security.
