Professor Anu Muhammad, former professor of Jahangirnagar University and member secretary of the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports, has sharply criticized Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
He posted the remarks on his verified Facebook account on Saturday (6 December) evening.
Accusation of Misconduct
Anu Muhammad said that the press secretary has been repeatedly behaving disrespectfully towards the people of Bangladesh while enjoying the power of his position. He wrote,
“প্রধান উপদেষ্টার ক্ষমতার তাপে তার তথাকথিত প্রেস সচিব বাংলাদেশের মানুষের সাথে একের পর এক বেয়াদবি করে যাচ্ছে।”
Translation: “Using the power of the Chief Adviser, the so-called press secretary is repeatedly behaving disrespectfully with the people of Bangladesh.”
Phulbari Coal Mine Issue Intensifies the Criticism
Mentioning the Phulbari coal mine issue, Anu Muhammad condemned the press secretary for siding with corrupt groups. He also mentioned,
“সর্বশেষ টাউট বাটপার কোম্পানির কোলে বসে ফুলবাড়ী নিয়ে তার মন্তব্য/নড়াচড়া ঔদ্ধত্যের সীমা অতিক্রম করেছে!”
Translation: “By sitting with touts and corrupt companies, his comments and actions regarding Phulbari have crossed all limits of arrogance!”
He added that the press secretary deserves an appropriate response for such behaviour.

Press Secretary’s Facebook Reaction
Soon after Anu Muhammad’s post, Shafiqul Alam responded humorously on his own Facebook profile. Shafiqul Alam wrote,
“ডরে আমার ভয় কাঁপতেছে!!”
Translation: “I am shaking with fear!!”
