Rajshahi University Cracks Down on Misconduct 33 Students Face Harsh Punishments

Rajshahi University (RU) has taken strict disciplinary action against 33 students for violating university rules. Among them, six students have been permanently expelled, and others have faced varying penalties for their involvement in activities contrary to the university’s code of conduct. At least 25 of the students are affiliated with the banned Chhatra League organization, including former and current leaders, such as the president and general secretary of the university’s branch. The political affiliations of the remaining seven students have not been revealed.

The punishments were handed out for a range of offenses, including ragging, attacking anti-discrimination student movements, inciting violence, intimidation, seat trading in dormitories, forcing female students to chant slogans in common rooms, and forcibly occupying rooms, among other misdeeds. The university has imposed a variety of penalties, including permanent expulsions, temporary expulsions for varying periods, fines, and revocation of residential privileges. Some students were allowed to remain in the dormitories after submitting a written guarantee.

These decisions were made following the recommendations of the university’s disciplinary subcommittee and were approved at the 535th Syndicate meeting held on December 12. A press release issued by the university confirmed these actions, which reflect the university’s commitment to maintaining discipline and addressing serious violations, such as those against anti-discrimination movements and the disruptive behavior of students.
