According to preliminary calculations by the UAE Astronomy Society, the holy month of Ramadan is expected to commence on Thursday, 19 February 2026. This estimation indicates that the Islamic world is approximately 139 days away from the beginning of Ramadan.
New Moon Timing and Observation
The society’s chairman, Ibrahim Al Jarwan, stated that the start of Ramadan will be determined based on the sighting of the new moon. The new crescent moon is expected to be born on Tuesday, 17 February at 4:01 PM (Abu Dhabi time).

However, Al Jarwan explained that the new moon will set just one minute after sunset on that day, making it impossible to sight on Tuesday evening. Consequently, the official announcement of Ramadan will depend on the moon-sighting committee’s confirmation. Based on astronomical observations, the first day of fasting is most likely to fall on Thursday, 19 February.

Fasting and Daylight Duration in Abu Dhabi
Al Jarwan also provided insights into the fasting durations during Ramadan in Abu Dhabi. At the beginning of the month, the fasting period will last around 12 hours and 46 minutes. As the month progresses, this will gradually increase to about 13 hours and 25 minutes by the end of Ramadan.
Meanwhile, daylight hours will start at approximately 11 hours and 32 minutes, increasing steadily to around 12 hours and 12 minutes toward the end of the month.
