Key Highlights
- Rampal Thermal Power Plant generated 771.70 million units of electricity in August – its highest production in a month since its commissioning.
- The plant load factor (PLF) in August was 78.58%.
- The Rampal plant contributed 7.62% to the country’s total electricity generation.
- The plant has been consistently generating more than 600 million units of electricity for the last three months.
- Despite repeated shutdowns since its commissioning in 2022, it is now steadily increasing production.
- The main reasons for the success are the resolution of mechanical faults, quality coal imports and the hard work of the staff.
- The plant, with a capacity of 1320 MW, is currently one of the largest coal-fired power plants in the country.
- It is playing an important role in stability in the power sector, industrial development and increasing investor confidence.
Record production at Rampal Thermal Power Plant
The Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant located in Rampal, Bagerhat, set a new record in electricity production last August. During this time, the plant produced 771.70 million units of electricity, which is the highest production in a month since its commissioning.
Production increase and continuous success
According to the data of the institution, the plant load factor (PLF) in August was 78.58 percent. This plant’s single contribution to the country’s total electricity production of 10,100 million units was 7.62 percent.
Over the past three months, the plant has continuously produced more than 600 million units, supplying a total of 2,36.4 million units of electricity.
New momentum after overcoming past crises
Although the plant was commissioned in 2022, production was initially stopped several times due to various reasons including mechanical faults and coal shortage. However, as these problems have been resolved in recent months, the plant has been continuously increasing production.

Large coal-fired power plant
Known as a symbol of Bangladesh-India cooperation, this power plant has a generation capacity of 1320 MW. In December 2022, the first unit was commissioned and electricity supply to the national grid began, and later both units went into production. Currently, it is known as one of the largest coal-fired power plants in the country.
Reasons behind success
Anwarul Azim, Deputy General Manager of the institution, said
Translation: All the mechanical faults of the power plant have already been resolved. He also said that this success is due to the hard work of the officials and employees of the institution, which has made it possible to import good quality coal on time.
He further said,
Translation: Despite being dependent on imported energy, the plant’s production capacity, efficiency and consistent performance have brought stability to the country’s power sector. This project is playing an important role in the development of the industrial sector, increasing investor confidence and ensuring energy security. He also expressed hope that this success in production will continue continuously.
