Suppression of Religious Muslims in the Past Years

Renowned Islamic scholar and speaker Sheikh Ahmadullah has said that over the past 15–16 years, there has been a deliberate attempt to suppress devout Muslims in Bangladesh.

He stated,

“বিগত ১৫/১৬ বছর যাবৎ ইসলামের কথা বলার মতো কঠিন আরেকটি কাজ এই মাটিতে ছিল না।”

Translation: “For the past 15–16 years, there has been no task more difficult in this land than speaking about Islam.”

Speaking at the first alumni conference of Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasah at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre on Saturday (1 November), Sheikh Ahmadullah described how the recent July Movement had inspired young people to turn back to religion with renewed passion.

July Movement and Religious Awakening

Sheikh Ahmadullah highlighted that the July Movement exposed the long-standing suppression of faith in the country. However, it also brought a positive change by increasing the young generation’s interest in Islam.

He said,

“জুলাই আন্দোলন আমাদের দেখিয়ে দিয়েছে সেই দমন পীড়ন, বিশেষ করে আমাদের সমাজের তরুণদের মধ্যে দ্বীনের প্রতি আগ্রহকে আরও বহুগুণ বাড়িয়ে দিয়েছে।”

Translation: “The July Movement showed us the oppression, but it especially multiplied the young generation’s eagerness toward religion.”

Role of Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasah

In his speech, Sheikh Ahmadullah praised Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasah, calling it one of the few leading Islamic educational institutions in Bangladesh that have shaped successful individuals both at home and abroad.

“নিজেই তৈরি করুন নিজের অনলাইন স্টোর — কোনো কোডিং জ্ঞান ছাড়াই!”

He added that the madrasah has played a vital role in inspiring religious awareness among the youth and should continue leading both religious and academic fields simultaneously.

Need for Balanced Leadership

Sheikh Ahmadullah emphasized the importance of balancing religious and worldly leadership, urging graduates to take charge in every social sector.

He noted that Bangladeshis are deeply religious, regardless of faith, but attempts have been made for decades to silence the country’s devout Muslims.

Religion Grows Stronger Under Pressure

Sheikh Ahmadullah reminded the audience that Islam has always flourished in times of suppression.

He urged the young generation to use this religious spirit positively to guide society and serve as examples in every field.

He added that Bangladesh has many sectors waiting for new ideas and leadership, saying people are ready to welcome positive change.

Urging Youth to Rise and Lead

In his closing remarks, Sheikh Ahmadullah called on everyone to “wake up and awaken others.”

He also warned that foreign agendas are targeting young generations, urging Muslims to take leadership in social activities and build examples of moral and spiritual leadership across society.
