A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Bahubal, Habiganj, where a A rickshaw puller raped a teenage girl while on her way to her sister’s house. Swift action by the Bahubal Model Police Station led to the immediate arrest of two individuals connected to the horrific crime.
The incident occurred on Saturday in Goharuya village, part of the Sadar Union of the Upazila. The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Waris Miah (25), the rickshaw puller and son of Md. Alauddin from Habijpur village (Sadar Union No. 4), and Md. Tajul Islam (35), son of the late Chandu Miah from Goharuya village in the same union.
According to police sources, on Friday afternoon, the teenage girl from Chandania area, also in the same Upazila, boarded Waris’s rickshaw to go to her sister’s home in Bhadeshwar. However, instead of taking her to Bhadeshwar, the rickshaw puller veered onto a different road. The girl, unfamiliar with the area, didn’t recognize the route. As evening approached, the rickshaw puller took her to his cousin’s house in Goharuya village. There, she was subjected to rape throughout the night.

Upon receiving the distressing news around 10 PM on Saturday, the police quickly arrived at the scene. After gathering details, they arrested rickshaw puller Waris from Bhadeshwar at 2 AM and Tajul Islam around 3 AM, bringing them to the police station.
That very night, the teenage girl’s brother-in-law filed a case. The police have since sent the victim to Habiganj Hospital for medical examination. On Sunday morning, Bahubal Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zahidul Islam stated, “As soon as I received information about this incident at 10 PM on Saturday, I personally launched an operation. We have successfully arrested both rapists along with rescuing the victim.”
