Shocking Robbery of 17 Qurbani Cows Truck Hijacked by Armed Gang

Robbery of 17 Qurbani Cows

A shocking robbery took place on a regional highway where armed robbers held up a truck carrying 17 Qurbani cows at gunpoint. The gang tied up and blindfolded the driver and two helpers before abducting them and later abandoning them on the roadside in Charghat, Rajshahi, after starting their journey in Ishwardi, Pabna.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Tuesday night (May 27) on the Dashuria-Natore-Rajshahi regional highway, specifically in the Muladuli-Sheikhpara area of Ishwardi.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday (May 28) afternoon, Ishwardi police sub-inspector (SI) Md. Sharifuzzaman stated that the looted truck was recovered from in front of the Islamic University in Kushtia. However, the 17 cows are still missing. The cows were being transported by cattle traders from Dinajpur to another district for the Qurbani market.

According to the police and local residents, the truck carrying the cows was intercepted by a group of seven to eight armed robbers while passing through the Muladuli section of the highway. The robbers blocked the truck’s path with another vehicle, held the driver and helpers at gunpoint, tied them up, and drove away with the truck and cows via the Lalon Shah Bridge.

SI Sharifuzzaman said that upon receiving the robbery report during the night, police launched immediate operations. CCTV footage from early morning confirmed that the robbers had crossed the Lalon Shah Bridge and were seen moving through Bheramara. Another truck used by the gang diverted from the bridge route—presumably carrying the abducted driver and his two assistants—who were later dumped near the road in Charghat, Rajshahi. In the morning, the victims returned to Ishwardi police station and reported the incident in detail.

Sharifuzzaman added that around dawn, they received a tip via mobile phone about an abandoned truck near the Islamic University in Kushtia. Police rushed to the location and recovered the vehicle, but the cows were gone.

Ishwardi police inspector (investigation) Monirul Islam said that a rigorous investigation is underway regarding the robbery. A special operation has already been launched to arrest the robbers, and efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen cattle. A formal case filing is currently in process.
