Body Recovered Two Days After Disappearance
The body of Md. Iqbal Hossain (25), a student of the MSE Department (2019–20 session) at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), has been recovered two days after he went missing in Nafakhum waterfall in Thanchi, Bandarban.
A diving team from Chattogram recovered the body on Sunday (16 November) in the afternoon.
How the Incident Happened
On Friday (14 November), Iqbal was traveling with a group of 17 tourists who came from Dhaka’s Demra.
They entered the Nafakhum waterfall area, which is a restricted location, without any official registration and without a local guide—both of which are mandatory.
While exploring the area, Iqbal slipped and fell into the water and went missing.
The next morning (15 November), five members of the tourist group informed Thanchi Police Station and the administration about the incident.
Rescue Operation
After receiving the news, administrative officials, BGB personnel, police, and Fire Service and Civil Defence jointly launched a rescue operation.
Finally, at 4:55 PM on Sunday, they found Iqbal’s body under the water at the waterfall.
Family and Funeral Plans
Iqbal’s friend, Nafis Al Imran, confirmed that the body will be taken to Dhaka.
Iqbal’s body will be brought to Dhaka. The first funeral prayer will be held tomorrow at 9 AM in Dhaka. The second funeral prayer and burial will take place at his home village in Chandpur.
