Russia-Bangladesh Trade Relations between Boosting Wheat and Fertilizer Exports, Strengthening Cooperation
Russia has expressed interest in expanding wheat and fertilizer exports to Bangladesh. In a key meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk stated that “Russia wants to export more wheat and fertilizer to Bangladesh.”
This significant discussion took place on Thursday during the Boao Forum for Asia conference in Boao city, Hainan province, China.
Russian Wheat/Fertilizer Imports and Rooppur Power Plant, Energy Cooperation
During the meeting, both leaders explored several mutual interests, including the ongoing development of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant which was funded by Russia. The leaders also discussed plans for increasing wheat and fertilizer imports from Russia to Bangladesh. Alongside the expansion of Gazprom’s gas exploration activities in the region.

Professor Yunus highlighted that financial matters related to the Rooppur Power Plant have been resolved, with payments now being made into an account in Dhaka. The trial electricity production from the Rooppur Power Plant is expected to begin by the end of this year.
Expanding Bangladesh-Russia Cooperation and Strengthening People-to-People Ties
The Chief Adviser emphasized that Bangladesh plans to import more wheat and fertilizer from Russia to meet growing demand. He also expressed interest in expanding Gazprom’s exploration activities both offshore and onshore in Bangladesh.
Alexei Overchuk expressed the importance of strengthening ties between the people of both country’s and expect hopes for more Bangladeshi students studying in Russia further enhancing bilateral relations.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain, Energy Adviser Fawzul Kabir Khan and Dr. Khalilur Rahman, senior representative of the Chief Adviser.
