Sadik Kayem’s Strong Statement
Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Vice President Sadik Kayem has accused cricketer Sakib of being an ally of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In a Facebook post on Sunday night (28 September), he said that those who tried to separate “cricketer Sakib” from “politician Sakib” had a clear purpose.
Calling Hasina and Allies Killers
In his Facebook status, Sadik Kayem wrote:
“ফ্যাসিস্ট হাসিনা ও তার দোসরদের একমাত্র পরিচয়-খুনি ও গণহত্যাকারী। জুলাইয়ের ঘাতকদের আর কোনো পরিচয় হতে পারে না।”
Translation: “The only identity of fascist Hasina and her allies is that they are killers and genocides. The July attackers cannot have any other identity.”
Criticism of Normalizing Perpetrators
He also criticized efforts to normalize or rehabilitate people accused of atrocities by giving them professional or intellectual identities.
Sadik wrote:
“ক্রিকেটার সাকিব এবং রাজনীতিবিদ সাকিব আলাদা-এই বয়ান প্রতিষ্ঠার চেষ্টা যারা করেছিলেন, তাদের উদ্দেশ্য জাতির কাছে স্পষ্ট। একইভাবে বিভিন্ন পেশার গণহত্যাকারীদেরকে তথাকথিত বুদ্ধিজীবী, সাংবাদিক, পেশাজীবি, রাজনীতিবিদ, কূটনৈতিক নানা পরিচয় দিয়ে নরমালাইজ এবং পুনর্বাসনের চেষ্টা করা হয়েছে।”
Translation: “Those who tried to establish the narrative that cricketer Sakib and politician Sakib are separate had a clear motive. Similarly, genocides from different professions were normalized and rehabilitated by labelling them as intellectuals, journalists, professionals, politicians, or diplomats.”

July Generation Will Not Stop
Sadik Kayem concluded by saying that the young generation will continue their struggle until the entire fascist system is broken.
He said:
“আমরা স্পষ্ট ভাষায় বলতে চাই, দীর্ঘ ফ্যাসিবাদী আমলে সর্বস্তরে জেঁকে বসা ফ্যাসিস্ট, ফ্যাসিস্টের দোসর এবং ফ্যাসিবাদী কাঠামো ভেঙে চুরমার করা পর্যন্ত জুলাই প্রজন্ম ক্ষান্ত হবে না।”
Translation: “We want to make it clear that the July generation will not stop until the fascists, their allies, and the fascist structures rooted during the long fascist rule are completely destroyed.”
