The National Citizen Party (NCP) has once again sparked online debate over its electoral symbol the “Shapla Kali” (Water lily Bud).
On Sunday, November 2, the party’s Northern Regional Coordinator, Sarjis Alam, took to Facebook to express his optimism about the upcoming election. His post read:
Translate : “From villages to city streets, alleys to neighborhoods this time, Shapla Kali will win.”
Within hours, the post went viral, drawing significant attention across social media platforms.
Under the post, numerous users shared their opinions. Some showed enthusiasm for NCP’s optimism, while others mocked the symbol.
One commenter, Mohammad Farhad Molya, wrote:
Translate: “The Shapla Kali will remain a bud forever; it will never bloom into a flower take that as reality.”

Another user, Giyas Uddin Makki, added a sarcastic twist:
Translate: “Let every alley know — it’s not Shapla Kali but Anaar Kali that will win this time.”
Meanwhile, Nur Ahmed, an apparent supporter, expressed hope:
Translate: “This time, Bangladesh will shine bright with the light of Shapla Kali.”
The lively comment section reflects the growing buzz around the Shapla Kali symbol, which NCP leaders have repeatedly emphasized as their chosen emblem for the next general election.
Earlier, NCP’s Chief Coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwari stated:
Translate : “We have submitted our application to the Election Commission. Among the available options Shapla, White Shapla, and Shapla Kali we are determined to take Shapla Kali.”
Translate: He further added that there would be a fierce contest between the “Dhaner Shish” (Sheaf of Paddy) the symbol of the BNP and the “Shapla Kali.”
The Shapla Kali symbol has become a new center of political conversation within the NCP and beyond. While critics dismiss it as mere political optimism, supporters believe it represents the emergence of a new wave in Bangladeshi politics.
With election season drawing near, NCP’s campaign appears to be gaining digital momentum starting from social media and spreading into real-world political discourse.
