Sarjis: “If someone uses my name for extortion money they’re not with me”

Sarjis Alam

Sarjis Alam, the Chief Organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP) for the northern region, declared, “If anyone ever asks for even 1 taka in my name in Atwari for any work, know that they are not connected to me. I’m making it clear today never give money to anyone for work, no matter who asks.”

He made the statement on Friday (July 4) afternoon while inaugurating a new NCP office at Atwari Bazar in Panchagarh’s Atwari upazila.

Sarjis added, “If a task is logical and truly benefits people, I will do it without any demands. But if something is illegal or impossible, no matter who asks I won’t do it.”

He strongly criticized corruption in politics, saying, “In the new Bangladesh, some political figures are still involved in wrongdoing. In Atwari’s markets, people are forced to pay extortion money just to get a truck through. They have to pay bribes to receive services from Union or Upazila councils. And those doing this are often self-proclaimed party leaders. These people cannot lead Bangladesh toward a better future.”

Meanwhile, the party’s Convener, Nahid, said, “Some people within political parties became rich and oppressive by looting resources. These very people have now fled the country, leaving behind all their fellow leaders and activists in trouble. Such people are not true leaders.”
