Sarjis Alam accuses BNP of extortion in Lalmonirhat, tagging Tarique Rahman and Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir on Facebook, and calls for strict action.

Sarjis Alam the chief organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has taken to Facebook to make serious allegations about organized extortion linked to BNP’s name in Lalmonirhat district.

What he wrote to Mirza Fakhrul and Tarique Rahman?

In a post from his verified account at 1:13 AM on Wednesday, July 3, he directly tagged BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urging accountability.

According to Sarjis, trucks carrying government-authorized stone and sand from Patgram upazila are being stopped and forced to pay bribes ranging from Tk 500 to Tk 1,000 per vehicle. He claims that this has become a daily routine, turning into a systematic looting under the guise of political affiliation.

In a startling revelation, He stated that earlier that day, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Patgram arrested two individuals allegedly involved in the extortion and sentenced them to one month in jail.

However, chaos unfolded soon after. Hundreds of leaders and activists from the BNP and its affiliated Swechchhasebak Dal reportedly stormed the police station, vandalized property, and forcefully freed the detained extortionists.

Things escalated further when the district’s Superintendent of Police requested backup from the neighboring Hatibandha Police Station. According to Sarjis, BNP leaders and activists from that area then surrounded and blockaded that station as well, preventing police reinforcements from arriving.

“This is not just misuse of power, it’s organized anarchy,” Sarjis warned in his post. “If grassroots BNP leaders continue to shield criminal elements and engage in extortion under political cover, how can we ever talk about reforming the nation?”

He added that locals believe an influential aspirant for the area’s Member of Parliament seat is backing these illegal activities.

Calling for urgent reform he emphasized that unless the party first controls its grassroots leadership, talk of national reform would be meaningless. He urged BNP to cooperate with law enforcement instead of obstructing justice.

“We don’t want to hear your slogans or political promises. We want to see your stance and action against wrongdoing even if it involves your own party members,” Sarjis declared. “The people are watching.”
