A First-of-Its-Kind Innovation
Saudi Arabia’s national airline Saudia has launched the world’s first cooling ihram, a special high-tech garment designed to help pilgrims stay cool during Hajj and Umrah rituals in extreme heat.
Developed with Landor and cooling-fabric experts brrr®, this is considered the first major technological upgrade to traditional Islamic pilgrimage clothing.

Advanced Cooling Technology
The ihram uses patented cooling minerals, active moisture wicking, and rapid-drying technology, which together help lower the wearer’s body temperature by 1–2°C, depending on the weather.
The fabric also includes UPF 50+ sun protection while remaining fully compliant with all religious rules for both male and female pilgrims.
Saudia VP Marketing on Pilgrim Comfort
“Our goal is to ensure comfort and help pilgrims focus on what truly matters during their journey,” said Essam Akhonbay.
He added that this innovation reflects Saudia’s continued commitment to improving the pilgrimage experience as the leading carrier for Hajj and Umrah travelers.
Showcased at Arabian Travel Market 2025
The cooling ihram was officially introduced at the Arabian Travel Market 2025 in Dubai, placing Saudia at the forefront of innovation in religious tourism.
Saudia announced that the cooling ihram will be available to its passengers starting June 2025, with further distribution details to be shared soon.
