In Savar, Dhaka, A daughter has been accused of killing her father by giving him sleeping pills and then stabbing him to death. After the murder, his daughter surrendered by calling the national emergency service number 999.The incident took place in a fifth-floor flat of a house in Majidpur, Savar municipal area, early Thursday (May 8), Savar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jewel Miah told reporters.
Police said Abdur Sattar (55), was a resident of Bhaga village under Singra police station in Natore district. He lived in the flat with his daughter. Police recovered Sattar’s body and sent it to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in the capital for an autopsy. Police have arrested Sattar’s daughter (23) in this incident.

Why did she kill her father?
The deceased was 57 years old. The girl’s mother was his third wife. The girl’s mother died when she was five years old. Her father raped her several times since 2019.In 2023, the young woman filed a case against her father in a court in Natore, alleging rape. After that, the father pressured his daughter to withdraw the case at various times. At one stage, he also filed a theft case against her.Later, the father started living in a rented flat in Savar. The girl moved into that house early this year. Since then, he has been pressuring his daughter to withdraw the case. This led to an argument between the two.
On Wednesday night, the girl mixed sleeping pills with food and fed them to her father. At around 4 am, she stabbed her father to death in various parts of his body.Police said the deceased had sublet one of the three rooms in the flat. The other two rooms were occupied by his daughter and father. He used to sell clothes online. The girl had locked the door of the sublet room from outside before the murder.
Savar Model Police Station SI Abdur Rashid said, “Around 4 am, a woman called the national emergency service number 999 and said that I had killed my father. They took me away. Later, the police went to the spot and recovered Abdur Sattar’s body and arrested his daughter Jannat.”SI Imran said, “Both the father and daughter lived in the flat. The father had no relationship with the girl’s mother. A bloodstained knife used in the murder was seized during the arrest.”
