“Screenshot Politics” Sparks Heated Debate Over Hidden Shibir Members Inside Chhatra League

Screenshot Politics

A political storm is brewing in Dhaka University after allegations surfaced that former members of Islami Chhatra Shibir secretly joined Chhatra League and were involved in student torture. Abdul Kader, a student activist, posted screenshots and raised serious claims, which were later challenged by former DU Shibir leader Sadik Kayem. Both sides are exchanging strong words and detailed statements on social media, bringing attention to the murky overlap of student politics and old affiliations. Sadik warns that if “screenshot politics” continues, many NCP-BAGCHAS leaders might lose their political careers.

Allegations Against Former Shibir Activists Inside Chhatra League

Abdul Kader, former central coordinator of the Baisamya Birodhi Chhatra Andolon and convener of DU branch of Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad, claimed:

“Those who secretly joined Chhatra League from Shibir were the most aggressive ones. They led student torture and harassment under the excuse of Shibir tags in different dormitories.”

Several former coordinators supported his claim. The banned group Islami Chhatra Shibir also thanked them for making these statements public.

Sadik Kayem Denies Claims, Calls It a Distorted Campaign

Former DU Shibir president and central committee member Sadik Kayem hit back with a detailed Facebook post. He warned:

“If screenshot politics begins, many NCP and BAGCHAS members who spent their days bashing Shibir may lose their political careers!”

He argued that the chat Abdul Kader posted was not with him but with other NCP members. Using a third party’s private chat in public is a dangerous trend, he added.

“If personal conversations are made public for personal gain, it will lead to distrust and insecurity in politics.”

The Context Behind the Screenshot Shared by Abdul Kader

According to Sadik, after the August 5 incident, many students reached out to clarify they were not involved in criminal acts despite being connected to Chhatra League. He explained:

  • He forwarded such concerns to NCP leaders for further investigation.

  • These names were shared not for protection but to verify whether they were truly involved or innocent.

  • Screenshots shown by Kader were of conversations with others—not directly with him.

“Those named in the screenshots were never part of Shibir.”

Controversy Over Hasan Sayeedi and Sadik’s Alleged Lobbying

A major point of contention was Sadik’s alleged lobbying for Hasan Sayeedi, who had a controversial background:

  • Allegedly connected to Shibir earlier in his student life.

  • Became involved in Chhatra League later and accused of violent acts.

  • Arrested in 2024 for abducting two businessmen and again attacked injured students in July 2025.

Sadik denied lobbying for him, saying:

“Sayeedi is a criminal, and there’s no question of trying to save him.”

Allegations of Hidden Shibir Members Holding Key Positions in Chhatra League

Kader shared names of several DU students who allegedly had past links with Shibir but became active in Chhatra League:

  • Majedur Rahman (Bijoy Ekattor Hall) – Allegedly tortured a student in 2023.

  • Musaddiq Billah – Former Shibir member turned Chhatra League DU office secretary.

  • Afjalun Naeem (Jasim Uddin Hall) – Notorious in guestroom abuse, now assistant to Shibir’s top leader.

  • Ilias Hossain (Mujib Hall) – Once a harsh enforcer in Chhatra League, now rejoined Shibir.

  • Hasanul Banna (Jagannath Hall) – Publicly rejoined Shibir after August 5, now a hall leader.

  • Raihan Uddin (F Rahman Hall) – Former speechwriter for Chhatra League, now a Shibir leader.

Kader alleged:

“I discussed with Mr. Sadik Kayem about bringing to justice those Shibir men who acted like Chhatra League insiders.”

The Bigger Picture: Manipulated Student Politics?

Abdul Kader and others claimed that:

  • Internal Chhatra League and NCP investigations were biased.

  • Many “hidden Shibir” members were left off the official list of attackers post-July 15.

  • Batch representatives and hall leaders were manipulated to keep such individuals safe.

They further alleged:

“The promises made in July couldn’t be kept because everyone tried to save their own party members, letting criminals go free.”

Conclusion: More Questions Than Answers

This entire episode has opened a Pandora’s box regarding political hypocrisy, infiltration, and loyalty in student politics. While one side demands transparency, the other warns about misuse of private information. The clash between Abdul Kader and Sadik Kayem is no longer just personal—it’s a reflection of deeper cracks in student leadership and political alliances within Dhaka University.
