The administration has imposed Section 144 to control the law and order situation after clashes and tension between local people and students of Chittagong University in Hathazari, Chittagong.
Section 144 imposed
The upazila administration took this decision after clashes broke out in the Gate No. 2 area of the university on Sunday (August 31) afternoon. Section 144 will be in force in the Hathazari municipal area adjacent to Chittagong University and the 10-kilometer area adjacent to the university from 3 pm on Sunday to 3 pm on Monday.
During this time, any meeting, procession, procession, demonstration, carrying weapons or gathering of more than five people has been strictly prohibited. The decision has been taken to protect public safety and avoid any unpleasant situation, a notice signed by Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Kamrul Islam said.
Incidents of clashes and attacks
According to eyewitnesses, the university’s Pro-VC (Administration) Professor Dr. held discussions with students and local people to calm the situation. Md. Kamal Uddin, Registrar and members of the law enforcement agencies. However, when the locals refused to accept the talks, a chase began between the two sides.
When the administration officials left the scene, the locals attacked them with sticks and bricks. The Pro-VC fell ill and was rescued by the security forces. In addition, many students were injured and admitted to the hospital in a bloody state.

Origin of the incident
Earlier, following the clash on Friday, students blocked the main gate of the university and took part in a protest in the Zero Point area from Sunday morning. They demanded justice for the attackers. At that time, when they received news of a new attack on some students, the locals came forward with sticks. As a result, another clash broke out. The main reason for the clash was the beating of a female student by the doorman of the house.
Exams postponed
As the situation heated up, the university’s Pro-VC (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin announced the postponement of all university exams on Sunday.
