Protest at Shahbag

Members of National Chhatra Shakti blocked roads at Shahbag on Monday (15 December) afternoon, demanding the resignation of the Home Adviser.

The protest began around 12:00 pm. Demonstrators accused the government of failing to arrest those responsible for the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Manch and a potential independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency.

Allegations Against the Home Adviser

Protesters claimed the country is not yet ready for a national election due to poor law and order. They said the current Home Adviser has failed to control the situation and should resign in the interest of the people.

Details of the Attack on Hadi

On Friday (12 December), two attackers arrived on a motorcycle and shot Sharif Osman Hadi in the head while he was sitting in a moving rickshaw on Box Culvert Road in the Paltan area of Dhaka. He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital.

On Monday afternoon, he was scheduled to be flown to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced treatment.

Case Filed and Investigation

A case has been filed at Paltan Police Station over the attempted murder. One of Hadi’s relatives filed the case, and it is being investigated by Inspector (Operations) Yasin Mia.

So far, law enforcement agencies have detained eight suspects. Among them are the owner of the motorcycle used in the attack, two members of a border human trafficking gang, and the wife, brother-in-law, and another female associate of the prime accused, Faisal.

Current Situation

Protests continue across the country following the attack, with demonstrators demanding justice for Hadi and accountability from the authorities over the overall law and order situation.
