Shahbagh is blocked by the families of July uprising martyrs

Families of the July Uprising martyrs have blocked Shahbagh crossroads in protest, calling for the arrest of those suspected of carrying out the killings. The demonstration started this morning, February 6, at 11:30 a.m. According to Mehedi Shakil, assistant commissioner (traffic) of the Shahbagh zone of the Dhaka Metropolitan, the roadblock has caused the movement of vehicles in the area to stop. The demonstration coincides with the continuing destruction of the Mujib house at Dhanmondi-32, which started last night and is being led by students and the general public. They have been obliged to take to the streets, Meheraj’s father, Abdur Rab, who was assassinated on August 5th.

“It has been almost six months since the July uprising; however, most of the killers are still at large, and even their leader [Hasina] threatened us from India,” he stated. “We want justice and the recognition of the sacrifice that my son made,” he said, adding that “even though the interim government came to power with our mandate, they are not inclined toward ensuring justice.”
