Missed Spot on the Ship
Renowned Bangladeshi photographer, educator, and human rights activist Shahidul Alam is taking part in the Global Sumud Flotilla journey to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza. Sharing his experience on Facebook, he wrote about missing the best sleeping spot on the ship Conscience.
“জাহাজ ‘কনসায়েন্সে’ এটি ছিল সেরা ঘুমানোর জায়গা। কিন্তু শেষ যাত্রী হিসেবে জাহাজে ওঠায় সেখানে আমার জায়গা হয়নি।”
Translation: “On the ship ‘Conscience’, this was the best place to sleep. But as the last passenger, I didn’t get the spot.”
He added that he finally found a small space next to the exit gate and managed to sleep well despite noise and light, as his prison and remand experiences had prepared him for such situations.

Grateful for Support
Shahidul Alam expressed gratitude for the prayers and well wishes pouring in from around the world.
“বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন প্রান্ত থেকে দোয়া ও শুভকামনার বার্তা আসছে… এটা অনেক বড় অনুপ্রেরণা হয়ে উঠেছে।”
Translation: “Messages of prayers and good wishes are coming from all over the world… This has become a great source of inspiration.”
Message to Journalists
Addressing journalists, Shahidul said he had received too many requests for updates and content.
“অনেক গণমাধ্যমকর্মী আপডেট ও কনটেন্ট চেয়ে বার্তা পাঠাচ্ছেন… দয়া করে কনটেন্টের জন্য ড্রিক-এর সহকর্মীদের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করুন।”
Translation: “Many journalists are asking for updates and content… Please contact my colleagues at Drik for the materials.”

Flotilla’s Security Challenges
He described the risks faced by the flotilla, highlighting Israeli attempts to stop them in international waters. He also mentioned stormy weather and high waves but confirmed that their captain was moving ahead strongly.
“আলোচনার কেন্দ্রবিন্দু এখন আন্তর্জাতিক জলসীমায় সুমুদ ফ্লোটিলার নৌকাগুলোকে ইসরায়েলি জলদস্যুদের আটকানোর ঘটনা।”
Translation: “The main discussion now is about Israeli pirates detaining Sumud Flotilla boats in international waters.”
Determined Mission
Ending his post, Shahidul Alam made a strong declaration of determination:
“আমরা অবরোধ ভাঙবো… ফিলিস্তিন মুক্ত হবেই।”
Translation: “We will break the blockade… Palestine will be free.”
