A new controversial speech by Jamaat-e-Islami’s Central Working Committee member and former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury has now spread across social media. Earlier, he had said:
নির্বাচন শুধু জনগণ দিয়ে নয়…যার যার নির্বাচনী এলাকায় প্রশাসনের যারা আছে, তাদের সবাইকে আমাদের আন্ডারে নিয়ে আসতে হবে। আমাদের কথায় উঠবে, আমাদের কথায় বসবে, আমাদের কথায় গ্রেপ্তার করবে, আমাদের কথায় মামলা করবে
Translation: “Elections cannot be won only with people. We must bring every administrative official in each constituency under our control. They will rise on our word, sit on our word, arrest on our word, file cases on our word.”
This statement alone triggered strong reactions. In the newly viral clip, he is heard saying:
‘আল্লাহর ওয়াস্তে বাড়াবাড়ি করিয়েন না। আমার নাম শাহজাহান চৌধুরী। আমি শুনতেছি, অনেক জনে নাকি উল্টাপাল্টা বলতেছে; খবরদার, খবরদার, খবরদার। আমার নাম শাহজাহান চৌধুরী। আমাকে যারা চিনেনি তারা এখনও মাটির নিচে বসবাস করে। আমি চোখ তুলে দেখতেছি, আমার জন্য আল্লাহ আছে। আল্লাহ মেহেরবানি, আমার জন্য সূর্য দাঁড়িয়ে থাকবে। আল্লাহ তায়ালা আমাকে এরকম মর্যাদা দিয়েছেন।’
Translation: “For God’s sake, don’t cross the line. My name is Shahjahan Chowdhury. I am hearing that many people are talking nonsense; beware, beware, beware. My name is Shahjahan Chowdhury. Those who didn’t know me are now living underground. I raise my eyes and see that Allah is with me. By Allah’s mercy, the sun will stand still for me. Allah has given me such honor.”
Several Chittagong Jamaat leaders confirmed that Shahjahan Chowdhury delivered this speech on 13 November during a public campaign event in Tulatali area of Charti Union, Satkania. He added further:

সেজন্য বলে যাচ্ছি, চুদুর বুদুর (উল্টাপাল্টা) করিও না। লুলা (অবশ) হয়ে যাবে। আমি যদি চোখের পানি ফেলি, লুলা হয়ে যাবে। আমি অনেক কষ্ট পয়েছি। ১৮ বছরের মধ্যে ৯ বছর জেল খেটেছি। আমি টাকাপয়সা চাই নাই, ধনদৌলত, কাপড়চোপড়, পরিবারকে চাইনি। আমি আপনাদের দুয়ারে আজকে এসেছি।
Translation: “That’s why I am repeatedly telling you, don’t do nonsense. You’ll become paralyzed. If I shed a tear, you will become paralyzed. I have suffered a lot. I’ve spent 9 years in jail within the last 18 years. I never asked for money, wealth, clothes, or family. Today I have come to your doorstep.”
He continued:
আপনারা দোয়া করবেন। মেহেরবানি করে দোয়া করবেন। আমার চোখের পানি বৃথা যায়নি। এই চরতী আমার শায়েখ, ওস্তাদ মাওলানা মমিনুল হক চৌধুরীর জন্মস্থান। আমি এলাকাকে সম্মান করি, এই এলাকার মাটিকে সম্মান করি। এখানে কোনো রাজনীতি নাই। এখানো আর কোনো মার্কা নাই, সাতকানিয়া-লোহাগাড়ার মার্কা একটা, সেটা হলো দাঁড়িপাল্লা।
Translation: “Please pray for me. My tears have never gone in vain. This Charti is the birthplace of my Shaykh, my teacher Maulana Mominul Haque Chowdhury. I respect the area and its soil. There is no politics here. There is no other symbol here—Satkania–Lohagara has only one symbol, and that is the ‘balance scale.’”
Earlier on 22 November, his remarks about “bringing the administration under control” at a gathering of Jamaat’s Chittagong electoral organizers caused significant backlash. In response, the central Jamaat issued a show-cause notice, asking him to submit a written explanation within seven days. The notice also stated that failure to provide a satisfactory response would result in disciplinary action.
