Hasina Prays for Khaleda Zia’s Recovery

According to a report by India’s news agency IANS, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in India, has expressed deep concern about the serious health condition of her long-time political rival, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

In an email interview sent to IANS, Sheikh Hasina said:

‘বেগম খালেদা জিয়া অসুস্থ এটা জানতে পেরে আমি গভীরভাবে উদ্বিগ্ন। তিনি যেন সুস্থ হয়ে ওঠেন সেই প্রার্থনা করি।’

Translation: “I am deeply concerned to know that Begum Khaleda Zia is ill. I pray for her recovery.”

IANS published a detailed report based on this email.

IANS Publishes Its Own Report on the Interview

In its published story, IANS writes that Sheikh Hasina expressed serious worry about the declining health of Khaleda Zia. The agency had asked Hasina about Khaleda Zia’s medical complications and recent updates. Hasina shared her brief comments through email, which IANS later turned into a news report.

Khaleda Zia’s Current Medical Status

The report states that 79-year-old Khaleda Zia has been suffering from multiple long-term health issues such as heart complications, diabetes, liver cirrhosis, and kidney problems.

She is currently being treated at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, where she has been placed in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) under strict supervision. Her treatment is being managed by both local and international medical specialists.

Recent Deterioration in Health

Medical sources told IANS that Khaleda Zia was admitted to the hospital on 23 November after infections were detected in her heart and lungs. As her condition worsened, she was transferred to the CCU on 27 November, where she remains under continuous observation.

Plans to take her to London for advanced treatment are facing delays due to complications.

Air Ambulance Issue Delays Transfer

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, quoted by local media, said that a special air ambulance arranged through the Amir of Qatar could not land in Dhaka due to technical problems.

He said that whether Khaleda Zia can travel depends entirely on her physical condition and the approval of the medical board. If she becomes fit for travel and the board agrees, she may be sent abroad for treatment — but the process has been repeatedly interrupted.
