Sheikh Hasina’s Lawyer Claims Abu Sayeed’s Murder Video Is AI-Generated

In the ongoing trial at the International Crimes Tribunal over the July 2024 uprising, a controversial video showing the killing of Abu Sayeed was played in court. Sheikh Hasina’s lawyer claimed the video was made using AI, which was later denied by a witness. Two more witnesses gave testimony on August 6, with the next hearing scheduled for August 17.

AI Controversy Over Abu Sayeed Murder Video

During the court hearing on August 6, at the International Crimes Tribunal, a video clip showing the alleged murder of Abu Sayeed was played. The footage caused debate in the courtroom.

Sheikh Hasina’s lawyer, Advocate Amir Hossain, questioned the authenticity of the footage. He claimed:

“আবু সাঈদ হত্যার ফুটেজ এআই (কৃত্রিম বুদ্ধিমত্তা) এর মাধ্যমে তৈরি করা হয়েছে।”
Translation: “The video footage of Abu Sayeed’s murder has been created using AI (artificial intelligence).”

However, one of the witnesses, AKM Moinul Haque, immediately denied this claim.
He said:
“এটি সত্য নয়।”
Translation: “This is not true.”

Witness Testimonies Continue on Day 3

On the third day of the hearing, two more people gave their witness statements. They are:

  • AKM Moinul Haque – Journalist from NTV, Rangpur

  • Rina Murmu – Student of Rangpur University

Both were eyewitnesses to the attack during the July 2024 uprising.

Their testimonies brought the total number of witnesses in the case to five. The court is examining all accounts to understand what happened during the uprising and who was responsible.

Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Accused by a Witness

One of the witnesses directly accused Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal (the former Home Minister) of being involved in the killing of Abu Sayeed. This accusation was made openly during the hearing in court.

Court Hearing Led by Justice Golam Murtaza

The trial is being conducted by a three-member panel of the International Crimes Tribunal. The judges are:

  • Justice Golam Murtaza Mojumder (Presiding Judge)

  • Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud

  • Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury

Next Hearing Date Set

After recording the testimonies on August 6, the court has decided to continue the hearing on August 17.

Former IGP Testified as Key Witness Earlier

Earlier, on July 10, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun appeared as a state witness in this case.

The tribunal granted him pardon on the condition that he confessed and cooperated with the court. This was a major development in the trial.
