Verdict Expects Next Week
The verdict in the trial of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to be announced next week, said Mahfuz Alam, Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
He made the statement on Tuesday (November 4) while meeting with the families of the July martyrs at the Ramganj Upazila Parishad Auditorium in Lakshmipur.
Mahfuz Alam said,
“আমরা যে অঙ্গীকার নিয়ে এসেছিলাম—বিচারের কাজ শুরু করবো, সেই কাজ শুরু করতে পেরেছি। আগামী সপ্তাহে শেখ হাসিনার, ফ্যাসিস্ট খুনি শেখ হাসিনার বিচার হবে এবং একটি রায় হবে। এতে জুলাই শহীদদের পরিবারের কিছুটা হলেও ব্যথা লাঘব হবে, তারা যে কষ্টের ভেতর দিয়ে যাচ্ছেন।”
Translation: “We had promised to start the process of justice, and we have been able to begin that. Next week, the trial of the fascist killer Sheikh Hasina will take place, and a verdict will be announced. This will help ease the pain of the families of the July martyrs, who have long suffered.”

Tribunal Trials Continue
Adviser Mahfuz Alam further mentioned that several tribunal trials are ongoing against others accused of involvement in killings and enforced disappearances.
“আরও অনেকের ট্রাইব্যুনালে বিচার কাজ চলছে। ট্রাইব্যুনাল কার্যক্রম অব্যাহত রয়েছে। যারা ছাত্রজনতাকে হত্যা ও গুমের সঙ্গে জড়িত ছিলেন, তাদের সবারই বিচার হবে। পরবর্তী সরকারে যারা আসবেন, তারা এই বিচার কার্যক্রম এগিয়ে নেবেন।”
Translation: “Trials of many others are still underway at the tribunal. The proceedings will continue, and everyone involved in the killings and disappearances of students and citizens will face justice. The next government will carry these trials forward.”
Reform and the July Charter
Adviser Mahfuz Alam highlighted that the country has made significant progress in reform efforts, emphasizing the July Charter, which brought political parties together under a common agreement.
“সংস্কার কাজে আমরা অনেক দূর এগিয়ে গেছি। রাজনৈতিক দলগুলো ঐকমত্যে পৌঁছে জুলাই সনদে স্বাক্ষর করেছেন। এটা বাংলাদেশের জন্য বড় প্রাপ্তি—যে রাজনৈতিক দলগুলো একসঙ্গে বসে সরকারগৃহীত একটি দলিলে ঐকমত্যে পৌঁছেছেন। এর ভেতর দিয়ে বাংলাদেশ একটা নতুন পর্বে রওয়ানা দিল।”
Translation: “We have made great progress in reforms. The political parties have reached a consensus and signed the July Charter. This is a major achievement for Bangladesh—seeing all parties agree on a government-endorsed document. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the country.”

Towards a New Bangladesh
Referring to the events of August 5, when Sheikh Hasina was removed from power, the adviser said the new government is working to build a just and balanced Bangladesh.
“৫ আগস্ট শেখ হাসিনাকে উৎখাত করে নতুন সরকার আনা হয়েছে। জুলাই সনদ ও সংস্কার কার্যক্রমের মাধ্যমে ভবিষ্যতে যে নির্বাচিত সরকার আসবে, তারা যদি এসব কাজ এগিয়ে নিতে পারে, তাহলে আমরা যে নতুন বাংলাদেশ চেয়েছিলাম—সেটি বাস্তবায়িত হবে। যেখানে ক্ষমতার ভারসাম্য থাকবে, আইনের শাসন ও সুবিচার নিশ্চিত হবে, গুম-খুনের সংস্কৃতি আর ফিরে আসবে না।”
Translation: “On August 5, Sheikh Hasina was ousted, and a new government was formed. Through the July Charter and ongoing reforms, if future elected governments continue this process, the new Bangladesh we dreamed of will become a reality—where power is balanced, the rule of law and justice prevail, and the culture of enforced disappearances and killings never returns.”
