Alleged Arson at BNP Leader’s House in Lakshmipur

A tragic incident took place in Lakshmipur, where a house belonging to a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader was allegedly locked from outside and set on fire. A sleeping child died in the fire, while three others were seriously injured.

The incident happened late at night on Friday (19 December) in the Char Mansa area of Bhabaniganj Union, under Sadar Upazila.

Child Dies in Fire, Three Injured

According to reports, BNP leader Belal Hossain’s house was allegedly set on fire after petrol was poured, and the door was locked from outside.

As a result, 7-year-old Ayesha Begum Binti died after being severely burned while sleeping.
Belal Hossain and his two daughters, Bithi Akter and Smriti Akter, were also burned in the fire.

Bithi and Smriti were later sent to Dhaka in critical condition for advanced treatment. Belal Hossain was admitted to the Sadar Hospital.

Family and Local Accounts

Family members and local residents said that Belal Hossain, the Joint Organising Secretary of Bhabaniganj Union BNP, was sleeping at home with his wife and children at the time.

They alleged that miscreants locked the door from outside, poured petrol, and then set the house on fire. The fire spread rapidly, leaving the family trapped inside.

Local people later rescued the injured and took them to the hospital.

Fire Service Statement

Lakshmipur Fire Service Station Officer Ranjit Kumar Das said:

“খবর পেয়ে ঘটনার স্থলে গিয়ে আগুন নিয়ন্ত্রণে আনা হয়। এইসময় নিহত এক শিশু ও অগ্নিদগ্ধ অবস্থায় তিনজনকে উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে। এর মধ্যে দুইজনের অবস্থায় গুরুতর। অগ্নিদগ্ধের বিষয়ে তদন্ত করা হচ্ছে।”

Translation: “After receiving the information, we went to the spot and brought the fire under control. One child was found dead, and three people were rescued with burn injuries. Two of them are in critical condition. The cause of the fire is being investigated.”

Police Response and Investigation

Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Wahid Parvez said:

“খবর পেয়ে পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থল পরিদর্শন করেন। অগ্নিদগ্ধ হয়ে এক শিশু মারা গেছে। আরও তিনজন অগ্নিদগ্ধ হন। তবে আগুনের বিষয়টি তদন্ত করা হচ্ছে।”

Translation: “Police visited the scene after receiving the information. One child died due to burn injuries, and three others were injured. The incident is currently under investigation.”

Ongoing Probe

Police and fire service officials have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to determine how the fire started and whether it was a planned act of arson.
