National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam said that some only want power, some only want quick elections but real reforms in the country are not that important to them.
He said,
“If no one takes the initiative to reform the country, then we have to take responsibility. We have a responsibility to those who took to the streets with us in the July movement, to those who were martyred. We cannot move away from the streets. No matter what the storm or rain, we have to continue our fight.”
He said this at a road meeting on the 13th day of the July Padyatra program held at the Krishnachuda More Shaheed Minar premises in Pirojpur city at 12:30 pm on Sunday (July 13). Despite the heavy rain and inclement weather, the strong presence of leaders and activists was noticeable.

Nahid Islam further said,
“The country’s businessmen are not able to conduct their business properly due to the oppression of extortionists. We strongly protest against the brutal killing of one of our businessmen by throwing stones in the recent horrific incident in Dhaka. InshaAllah, we will reach every district of the country with the goal of the ‘July Revolution’ in mind.”
He said,
“The autocratic fascist government of Sheikh Hasina fell through the July Uprising. That government was in power for 16 years by force and committed every misdeed including extreme oppression, murder, disappearance, torture, corruption, looting, terrorism, and deprivation of voting rights against the people of the country. The people were also deprived of voting rights in three national elections. The people took to the streets in protest of all this.”
Nahid Islam further said,
“This mass uprising was not only against the government, but also against the oppression that had begun by the state apparatus all forces, including the police. We took to the streets to get rid of that oppression. Then we said the state needs reforms. We don’t want to return to the old ways, we don’t want to return to the corrupt system. The main issue of our movement was social and economic inequality, which must be eliminated. We should all cooperate with the government that has been established through this mass uprising, so that a new, just and prosperous Bangladesh can be built.”
