State Mourning Announced
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has declared one day of state mourning on Saturday (20 December) following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha.
He announced the decision during his address to the nation on Thursday night (18 December).
Expression of Deep Condolences
Expressing deep sorrow, the chief adviser described Hadi’s death as an irreplaceable loss for the country’s political and democratic space. Said,
“তার প্রয়াণ দেশের রাজনৈতিক ও গণতান্ত্রিক পরিসরে এক অপূরণীয় ক্ষতি।”
Translation: “His passing is an irreplaceable loss to the country’s political and democratic space.”
Government Responsibility for the Family:
Dr Yunus also announced that the government will take responsibility for Osman Hadi’s wife and his only child.

Details of the State Mourning
Explaining the mourning programme, the chief adviser said national flags will be flown at half-mast on Saturday. He declared,
“শহিদ শরিফ ওসমান হাদির অকাল মৃত্যুতে আগামী শনিবার একদিনের রাষ্ট্রীয় শোক ঘোষণা করছি।”
Translation: “I declare one day of state mourning on Saturday over the untimely death of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi.”
Thanks to Singapore Government
Dr Yunus expressed special gratitude to the Singapore government for their support during Hadi’s treatment, particularly Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.
Promise of Justice
The chief adviser assured that all those involved in the killing would be brought to justice without delay. He stated,
“এই নৃশংস হত্যাকাণ্ডের সঙ্গে জড়িত সকল অপরাধীকে দ্রুত আইনের আওতায় আনা হবে এবং তাদের বিরুদ্ধে সর্বোচ্চ শাস্তি নিশ্চিত করা হবে।”
Translation: “All those involved in this brutal killing will be swiftly brought under the law and given the highest punishment.”
Call for Calm and Unity
Calling Hadi a symbol of protest and courage, Dr Yunus urged citizens to remain calm and united.
“বিপ্লবী রক্তে উজ্জীবিত এই তরুণ নেতা ওসমান হাদি ছিলেন প্রতিবাদের এক আইকন। আমি দেশের সকল নাগরিকের প্রতি আন্তরিক আহ্বান জানাচ্ছি, আপনারা ধৈর্য ও সংযম বজায় রাখুন।”
Translation: “This young leader, driven by revolutionary spirit, was an icon of protest. I sincerely urge all citizens to maintain patience and restraint.”
Dr Yunus said Hadi’s dream of building a new Bangladesh through elections must now be carried forward by the nation.
